Novice Events

These events are designed especially for those players who hold 100 masterpoints or less.

Masterpoints are earned when a player ranks highly in a session.  In some sessions masterpoints might be earned by the first three (3) players (1st, 2nd & 3rd) in other sessions the number of players earning masterpoints might be half the field.   The calculations for allocation of masterpoints is quite complicated and depends on a number of factors including the size of the field.

There are also differing categories of maserpoints:

*  Green -- awarded at each Club session
*  Red    -- awarded at competitions and congresses
*  Gold   -- awarded at congresses where the award has been sanctioned by the ABF

You can find out more about masterpoints  here.   Simply enter your ABF number and it will show you how many masterpoints you have earned.

Events, when advertised, will have a "cut-off date".   This means that your point count to that date is what is used to determine your eligibilty for a particular event.  For example:

* Novice Event,     30th November 2017  -- fewer than 100 masterpoints as at 30th September 2017
                              Maude Broad knows she has 101.27 masterpoints right now BUT on 30th Sept
                              she had only 97.28.   Maude is eligible for this event.
* Restricted Event 30th November 2017 -- fewer than 300 masterpoints as at 30th September 2017
                              Pearly White THINKS she had only 99.3 masterpoins as at 30th Sept BUT
                              when she looks up her masterpoints on the website she finds she had 101.2
                              on 30th September -- she'd forgotten playing with Bill Power that day. 
                              So Pearly cannot enter the Novice Event she has to enter the Restricted Event.
