From the President:
Peter Grant has been a Recorder for the Canberra Bridge Club for many, many years. He has fulfilled this role with fairness, thoroughness and a concern for the Club’s and individuals’ welfare. The job takes a lot of time and energy. He has also spent a large number of hours over many years fulfilling the role of a Recorder at the Summer Festival of Bridge. We are very grateful for all of this and it is only fair now that we allow him to retire from this activity.
I am delighted to announce that Stephen Fischer has agreed to take over this role with effect immediately.
Jodi Tutty, the other CBC Recorder, is continuing in the role.
Best wishes,
Pam
Vale Garry
We were sad to hear of the death of Garry Rippon recently and are thinking of his family and friends.
Many school students in Goulburn and Canberra were lucky enough to have Garry as their teacher.
Garry was a stalwart of the Goulburn Bridge Club and a member of the Canberra Bridge Club for many years and in recent times has played at the South Canberra Bridge Club and the Valley Bridge Club.
A good natured and generous friend to many, Garry played bridge in a wonderful spirit. He was interested in many things and a day was always improved by seeing Garry.
Lighter Moments
He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts - for support rather than illumination.

Notices
Electricity interruption – Tuesday 5th March
ACTEW has to install a smart meter at the club to assist our operations with the solar panels. This work will take place on Tuesday 26 February between 8am and 5pm and will take between 20 minutes and three hours. We hope it will occur in the morning but ACTEW will not give us a time. We will still hold the afternoon bridge session. Claire will post an update on the website at midday on that day if you are concerned.
Do you want a metal name badge?
We will soon be submitting another batch of orders for the Metal (magnetic) name badges. The cost is $15 per badge, pre-paid. Please see the managers before/after session.
Daily Bridge Column
The ABF is supporting an initiative whereby you can receive a daily bridge column for a year for $52, delivered to your phone, tablet or computer. This will start on 1 March.
The contributors are Ron Klinger, Barbara Travis, Phillip Alder, Barry Rigal, John Carruthers, Mike Lawrence and Andrew Robson.
You can subscribe now at www.abf.com.au/daily-column

If you would like to retain your CBC Membership for 2019, and have not yet paid your fees, please do so as they are now overdue. Membership fees can be paid to the managers, to the director, or via bank deposit (with your surname & ABF number in the reference field).
